Jack Visnjic is a classicist and historian of philosophy interested in uncovering longterm patterns in history. He holds a B.A. in classics and mathematics from Columbia University and a PhD in ancient philosophy from Princeton. His new book The Invention of Duty explores the origins of the notion of ‘moral duty’ in Greco-Roman antiquity. His podcast Ancient Greece Declassified brings cutting-edge scholarship on the ancient Mediterranean to a popular audience. He joined the Institute in February, 2019.
